Use Case, Expert Witnesses

Identify Protocol Deviations Across Large Medical Records

Medical expert witnesses use MedCase AI to rapidly surface protocol deviations from hundreds of pages of clinical records, prioritise findings by severity, and build a documented evidence base for expert testimony.

The Challenge

Complex records, limited time, high stakes.

Hundreds of pages per instruction

Expert witnesses are routinely instructed on cases involving years of medical history spanning hundreds, sometimes thousands, of pages.

Every deviation must be identified

Expert testimony demands thoroughness. Missing a single protocol deviation can undermine the credibility of an entire report.

Documented basis for testimony

Courts require that expert opinions are supported by documented evidence. Every finding must be traceable back to the source records.

Time-consuming manual review

Manually cross-referencing multi-year records against clinical protocols can take days of concentrated work, particularly for complex multi-disciplinary cases.

The Solution

How MedCase AI Helps Expert Witnesses

Rapid Deviation Identification

Seven parallel analyses surface protocol deviations in minutes that would take days of manual review to identify across large medical records.

Severity Prioritisation

Each finding is scored on a 1-10 severity scale, helping you focus your expert analysis on the most clinically significant deviations first.

Protocol-Referenced Findings

Every deviation is mapped to specific clinical protocol sections, giving you a documented reference point to support your expert opinion.

AI-Powered Record Interrogation

Ask specific clinical questions about the case and receive accurate, source-cited answers with page references, no more searching through records manually.

Documented Evidence Base

Structured, severity-scored findings with protocol references, ready to inform and support your expert report and testimony.

Workflow

From Instruction to Expert Report

01

Receive instruction

You are instructed on a clinical negligence case and receive the medical records from the instructing solicitor.

02

Upload records to MedCase AI

Upload the PDF medical records. MedCase AI processes scanned and handwritten pages with intelligent OCR and extracts a chronological timeline.

03

Review AI-identified deviations

Seven parallel analyses surface protocol deviations across care delays, missed appointments, pathways, treatments, medications, follow-up, and referrals.

04

Validate against clinical expertise

Apply your specialist knowledge to validate AI-identified deviations. Use AI case chat to interrogate specific clinical details with page-level references.

05

Focus on highest-severity findings

Use severity scores to prioritise your detailed analysis on the deviations most likely to have caused or contributed to patient harm.

06

Prepare expert report

Compile your expert opinion supported by structured, protocol-referenced findings, each traceable back to the source records.

"As a medical expert, I'm often instructed on cases involving years of complex medical history. MedCase AI helps me identify the key protocol deviations quickly, so I can focus my expertise where it matters most, providing informed clinical opinion on the most significant findings."

FAQ

FAQs for expert witnesses

How does MedCase support the expert report workflow?
MedCase surfaces potential protocol deviations for professional review as a structured pre-read, with severity scores, evidence quotes, protocol references, and page citations. The expert retains responsibility for the clinical view: review the underlying record, verify findings, and form an independent opinion. MedCase is not a substitute for an expert opinion.
Can findings be exported into my report?
Findings are structured so the relevant evidence quotes and protocol references can be copied or summarised into your report. Each finding cites the underlying record page so reliance remains verifiable.
How are large record sets handled?
MedCase accepts PDFs up to 2 GB per upload with multiple uploads per case. OCR is applied automatically to scanned and handwritten pages at 300 DPI. There is no fixed page-count limit; typical clinical negligence cases run from a few hundred to several thousand pages.
Which clinical protocols are supported?
Any clinical protocol uploaded to the platform: NICE guidelines, Royal College guidelines, local trust pathways, BNF, NPSA safety alerts, and other clinical standards. Protocols are chunked and embedded as vectors so semantic search finds relevant sections even when the record uses different terminology.
Does MedCase determine breach or causation?
No. MedCase outputs are an analytical aid for qualified professional review. They do not constitute medical advice, a diagnosis, a legal opinion, or a determination of negligence or causation. Severity scores prioritise findings for review; they are not a determination of harm.
How is PII and patient data protected?
Direct identifiers are stripped through triple-layer PII sanitisation before any AI processing. Records are encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM and hosted in Europe. Customer records are not used to train AI models. Full detail is in the Trust Centre.
